Working with Diane saved our marriage

When newly married, my husband and I were struggling to live well together because we have such different styles as I'm an interior designer and he's a writer. Working with Diane saved our marriage. We hired her again after a renovation in 2021 and still works perfectly. Every little thing has a place in our home and every few months when I'm looking for something unusual it's exactly where I think it would be. Worth every penny.

I really had thought I was beyond help

I cannot speak highly enough of Diane. I work in the beauty industry and receive a staggering amount of products on a regular basis that easily build up and create clutter. I chose Diane not only because I knew she'd worked with others in the beauty space before, but because she had received glowing reviews from two of my neighbors.

She has a unique approach in that she first comes to your home solely to get a history of your relationship (or in my case, lack thereof!) with organizing, cleaning, and clutter, which allows her to tailor her approach to your space. After our initial meeting, she spent an entire day with me helping me to purge all the stuff that had taken over my home and created a beautiful new system that is actually still working for me! I really had thought I was beyond help and Diane is proof that people just need the *right* kind of help.

She's also warm, completely nonjudgemental, honest, and genuinely LOVES what she does, which made the entire process that much more pleasant. I wholeheartedly recommend Diane and won't hesitate to work with her again in the future.

Diane made the process absolutely seamless

We spent two years renovating our home and were remarkably overwhelmed when it came time to move back in. Diane made the process absolutely seamless. She instituted unique, personalized systems that have been very easy to maintain. My three children consistently refer to Diane (and her disappointment) if things are "not where they should be" and out of place. Our home is a calm, uber organized sanctuary thanks to Diane and her lovely, efficient team.

Working with Diane was Pure Magic

For months I watched the messy pile of baby clothes accumulate, and while I knew I had to deal with it, I couldn't bring myself to spend my time (and energy) clearing and organizing 4 years and 2 babies' worth of STUFF.  I called Diane, told her what I needed, and in a day it was done. We have a system to work with to move forward, and I no longer dread opening my kids' closets.

I was Shopping for a Bigger Apartment

For over 20 years I have happily lived in a lovely little jewel box of an apartment, however, I never planned for it to serve as my home AND my office.  During the pandemic work-from-home, my small space felt crowded and messy, and I even made some furniture changes to try to adapt to the new use case. But, I was still uncomfortable, and longing for more space.  A friend had suggested that I reach out to Diane to help edit and organize my space, but I put it off.

An apartment in my building came on the market; I thought it was the solution to my problems since it had an extra room. As I was sitting in the apartment and imagining myself living there with more space, I realized that I would quickly fill up the additional room and have a larger mess. That was the spark I needed to call Diane and make an appointment to start working with her.

Diane has an incredible ability to learn how I wanted to use my space and my belongings. Over the course of several sessions, we worked together to edit and purge my unneeded stuff. She set up new systems for organization and storage - and they just work.  Four months later I can say that it has been effortless for me to maintain the organization in my home, and I feel happy again when I am there - both when I'm working and not working.

We Made an Investment in Our Life That We Will Take with Us Always

Moving pregnant with 2 little kids is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I couldn't have done it without you and your team's support and incredible work.

To say you exceeded expectations is an understatement. In my mind I was thinking we'd just have our things unpacked in an organized way -- but you truly created systems that have changed our lives. I can get ready faster, make breakfast faster, charge my phone without a million cords and everything has a home. We made an investment in our life that we will take with us always.

For someone who has enormous stress and anxiety over losing things/misplacing things/not knowing what I have because I'm so unorganized --  I can't tell you how different this feels.

When I say it's life-changing, it's not an understatement.

There aren't many times in life as an adult that you feel a service is such emotional support, but yours really is!!

It’s been a pleasure to see how the changes cascade

We have been busy since the class ended. I was able to accommodate 30+ bolts of fabric and get them cut out and serged so they could be assembled into scrub caps. There was fabric everywhere in the studio and it was chaos for a few days but it worked! No way I could have done that three months ago. While I don’t have a place for everything yet, when something seems messy I just think, “I need a system for that.”

Eric and I have also worked on several projects and instituted some new routines.

We cleaned out in the basement and were able to donate two huge totes of towels and several nice blankets to our church for the homeless ministry. We also found two sets that our daughter and her husband want to have so they will have new towels too.

Part of cleaning out the basement is to make exercise a more attainable in-home option. We already own a rowing machine and now it has space. By realizing that finding my shoes was a blocker for me I have been able to exercise more consistently just by putting my shoes next to the rowing machine.

I’ve developed a routine of going through around 100 slides each day. It’s lovely to see the art photos my dad took. I’m working on a plan to offer them as prints or stationary. The thousands of mountain pictures and weird snaps go to the Arts & Scraps store where there is always a market for old slides.

I mailed a huge box of my dad’s Boy Scout things to my cousin who lived with us when he was little. He was a Scout and neither my brother nor I were able to do Scouts so it meant a lot to my cousin to have those things.

We are actively thinking about what the next “thing” looks like for us. Will we stay here or move on? By actively thinking about the house and the way it works and doesn’t we have been able to transfer those skills to thinking about how we are stuck in other areas of our lives.

July was a month that really made some difference in our thinking and actions here. It’s been a pleasure to see how the changes cascade into making things work better. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how boxes in the basement aren’t really a way to honor anyone that has passed on. Eric pointed out that my mom never dealt with most things from her parents and so really I’ve got two generations’ worth of work to do. That helps, knowing it all should have been edited 30+ years ago.

This might have been more than you are looking for but you should know how you impact households.

15 Years

We can park a car in the garage for the first time in 15 years. Talking with Diane made me realize it was time to spend a weekend on the garage. It was so much easier than I could have imagined a few months ago!

So Simple and Such a Relief

In the last 5 years, I've moved, redecorated and reorganized my home countless times. This course gave me the tools to make every place in my home work for me.  It's so simple and such a relief, especially knowing this will come with me wherever I go next.

I've Finally Solved My Home Problems

I’ve spent thousands on items at The Container Store, worked with 2 home organizers, an interior designer, and I've done the Marie Kondo thing. Talking to Diane for an hour made me realize I was focused on the wrong things. I’ve finally solved my home problems.

Our Apartment Feels Like Our Home

We’ve been together for almost 30 years and this is the first time our apartment feels like our home. Things I didn’t even realize where causing stress in my life are just gone. Everything just works. I’m so glad you worked with us in September.

Eliminated the Unnecessary

Diane brought her delightful energy and organizing mastery to the two areas of our house that we just kept ignoring - the kitchen and basement. We initially had contacted her regarding a surplus of space in a prior kitchen, but New York life being what it is, we didn’t end up having her finish the job until two apartments later - which she breezed back into like no time or zip code had changed!

An immense plastic box of kitchenware that had traveled between all three apartments - and frequently came up in those fraught marital conversations around home cleaning - quickly disappeared as Diane sorted and found homes for the necessary, and eliminated the unnecessary. It was just the third party we needed to make it happen!

Further, Diane was able to turn a basement space to which we dreaded descending, into an elevated storage area, using as much of the existing shelving we had to create spaces for all the things that were important to us - games, cocktails, projects, etc!

Would highly recommend her thoughtful and joyous approach to her gifted work.

Lasting Results from Diane's Apartment Coaching

I'm writing this almost two years after working with Diane. After living in the same apartment for over a decade I realized I needed to dramatically improve my space but had no idea what to do or how. Diane's apartment coaching ended up being exactly what I needed. Diane worked with me to help me understand what I wanted my apartment to be and brought tons of ideas, advice and referrals to bear. Most importantly, she was able to explain suggestions in ways that made sense to me, giving me the confidence to evolve things further on my own later. Now that I’ve implemented the improvements we discussed, I’m happier coming home after a long day and I’m more comfortable than ever hosting parties and guests (who’ve had nothing but rave reviews for the improvements). Diane’s apartment coaching helped me make my apartment what it could've and should’ve been years ago.

Best Alumni Event in 10 Years - Crash Course for Your Crash Pad

We had the pleasure of hosting Diane for a Stanford Young Alumni event where Diane shared actionable insights on culture-driven design and how to maximize the most of our small apartment spaces. Diane made everyone feel at home while outside the confines of their home - a remarkably special talent. One attendee shared that this was the best alumni event he had attended in 10 years, a sentiment largely driven by the warm and safe space Diane cultivated. Diane made each attendee feel validated in the intimate questions they asked. She made her repertoire of home and workplace design knowledge accessible and the idea of an enjoyable living/working environment easily within reach. She went above and beyond, staying more than an hour after the event officially ended to answer questions and provide one-on-one consultations. As if sharing her wisdom wasn't enough, she also provided charming takeaway goodie bags from The Container Store. We'd love the opportunity to collaborate with Diane again in the near future. Thank you for everything!

Diane has been a Godsend

When my sister had a serious accident, she moved to Florida so we could provide care. Our real estate broker recommended New York at Home to help us with the apartment but we didn't know what to expect. Diane has been a Godsend! Even the most overwhelming tasks- finding important documents and her most treasured possessions, mailing everything to us, cleaning and staging the apartment, and preparing it for the new owner- were as simple as sending a quick email.  I highly recommend New York at Home to anyone needing this type of service.

We Called It "The Junk Hallway"

We used to call this space “the junk hallway”. It was a disaster hidden by a curtain and we could never figure out how to keep it neat and tidy. Thank you for breezing into town and transforming this dumping ground into a super organized and functional space! I can’t stop admiring your work. I keep making other small adjustments, putting things I use most frequently in the most accessible spots-- one of the many things I learned from working with you. I’m still in awe of your magical powers!
